AC/DC in Marseilles :We 've got the Ticket !

AC / DC as part of the Black Ice tour, stopped in Marseilles on 09 June 2009, at the Velodrome. These few words sum up much of what the 50,000 fans felt Stade Velodrome . AC / DC has delivered a stunning concert of energy, decibels and effects scene ... An opportunity that many had been waiting for too many years, a dream come true. That's it I can say I experienced a concert of AC / DC. And lawn and more! So with all that makes the charm of a live group: wait, sweating, reduced space, headbanging hell ...

stade1.jpg

As in any concert stage that respect, it should arrive early enough to avoid being responsible, of course, resulting in a wait of several hours where he must save his legs and try as you go measure movements of the crowd not to be found just behind a giant . Doors to 17h ... Even the first view of the scene is already weighing peanuts: a scene already with a huge step that even a mini-central scene, spots of lights literally lining structure, two video screens on the sides for the galleries, a central screen and two pairs of large horns above it all.

angus_2.jpg

Dear Australian friends we will share 2 hours of hard rock in its simplest and most tribal. Virtually no break, the pieces follow each other with their rhythms also unleashed some than others. It must be said ACE / DC is one of the few groups that does not have one in his classic ballad. The songs of the last album Black Ice (Rock N 'Roll Train, War Machine, Big Jack) interspersed with hymns (Back in Black, Thunderstruck, You Shook Me All Night Long, Highway To Hell, ...) to the delight of our ears. The moment that marked me most: TNT, with a refrain repeated in chorus by a stage for an incredible experience.

nuit.jpg

We have witnessed an event of rock, as there has already been a lot in the past. Asssistance we have a real show which impresses by its grandeur and extravagance. But we also witnessed the performance of a group that sounds fair and always hit every piece: great technicians and great composers (reaching as much of tubes with the rhythm of the drums more square in the world and only some agreements ...). And without this quality live music, show any huge increase for a show pompous and pretentious. Thank you AC / DC for this moment. We Salute You

RSNA2008-Conclusion

The RSNA is finishing..The Medical Imaging is in full effevescence, and in several sectors. The technology first with a trend, more compact equipment, smaller Limiting the dose to the patient, including high priority with regard to the CT and conventional radiology. The phasing out of radiological film to digital, and therefore improving reconstructions matrices and interpolation algorithms and even for mammography.

On a computer with the very important presence of IHE PACS and RIS, in the U.S. market especially, and a still weak in Europe and France. Free softwares are no longer in the field of medical imaging exclusive universities or projects. The industrial solutions are present, functional and support.I 've seen this week, both the DICOM viewvers that infrastructure more complex.

In terms of design solutions, I found many packaged solutions, offering a multitude of services.I have not seen too much integrator such IBM Healthcare, capable of proposing the project on the plan. I think LINAGORA can bring to this sector's ability to integrate both in data storage, secure flow of data, identity management, or Intranets, or platforms for exchanging DICOM.

Real opportunities exist, particularly in France or health card is very heterogeneous, or integration is required.

Finally I regret to see that the innovation comes from the USA, and not from France.

There is no willingness to invest in this sector in France. GE, Toshiba, Siemens, Philips, Mc Keysson, which share the market while their solutions are packaged, often oversized, costly.

There is a place in France for other actors, including the markets of IHE and PACS, RIS.

I left Chicago, however, very pleased to have participated in this congrès.I 've also learned a lot and contacts have been very numerous. tosrsna

RSNA Day 5 03/12/08

rsna2When I took the bus back to me Mc Kormick Place, for the fifth day, it snowed on Chicago, a thick snow that sticks.

I saw that there were already seven o'clock in the morning many people, even if the show exhibitors had not yet publicly available. I started about eight hours with a cases-based review of oncologic imaging .This presentation whose main topic of interest FDG 18, the impact of chimiotherapy on the action of FDG was very interesting. Then about ten hours and thirty i continued with a conference on imaging in the operating room, and trends on this point. The trend is precisely the proximity of the imaging operating room, with operations rooms equipped with MRI or CT, with all means of treatment and reconstruction of the image. Although I remain convinced that the speed of diagnosis including stroke early is a necessity, I found that the speakers in their speeches have been difficult to justify the price of these facilities, which tend to major reference centers on the treatment of emergencies.

Around 12:30, I ran into the room S406 to attend a conference on open source technologies in medical imaging. Very interesting and interactive as we could test solutions, this conference has shown us how the free softwares brings to this sector both in terms of DICOM viewvers, but also more complex infrastructures, such as PACS or the IHE. I 've reviewed OsiriX, but also 3D SLICER a very good but complex viewver..This solution that caught my attention the most was DJANGO which is an open source framework developed in Python, based on Apache and PostgreSQL, and allowing the import / export Data from PACS or to the RIS.Its support DICOM and HL7 standard and it is highly configurable. This framework can serve as a basis for application development. I could see its personalization for the sector of imaging through a platform for exchange of inter hospital.

I could also see open source PACS including one developed on a basis Zope quite interesting and very complete.

I get off at the showroom where I stayed a moment with Wolfgan K. MASTEK Department of Radiology at the University of Vienna, with whom I spoke, and requested more information on configuring DJANGO.

In the middle of the afternoon, I closed this day on the stands of exhibitors, by visiting the booths of companies offering PACS especially OnePacs, Double Jack Imaging, and TOSHIBA which presented its new scanner AQUILLON ONE.

Here, the actors have a business vision of this sector. There is even the Radiology Business Journal, very interesting indeed. We are not here in the "public services"vision (french vision) .But the technicals advances here are major, free, strong and investment. All this is hampered in France, this approach "public services", and only the larger centers now have PACS or to IHE. The potential in this country is enormous, compared to the U.S. market on which the market is saturated.

I also noticed during my visit that few U.S. companies had offices in Europe which poses a real problem in terms of support of applications.Larges companies like GE or Siemens have the infrastructure necessary for that.

Leaving in the evening I see that still snowing, and that the night had fallen. I decided to go eat a piece at the Hard Rock Cafe of Chicago in the company of Eddie Van Halen and ZZ TOP, and I returned to my hôtel.Chicago is beautiful at night. hardrock

RSNA Day 4 02/12/2008

It was 7 o'clock in the morning when, as the last three days I took the shuttle bus (Route 4) till Mc Kormick Place. On the agenda of many courses, including three on the IT sector. The first lecture, given by the manager of Europe AGFA concerned the recommendations for the implementation of IHE (Integrated Enterprise Hospital) This infrastructure widespread in the U.S. and still rare in France, are integrated environments, providing interconnection services, documentary sources, sources of images, and allow any time for any player in the chain care access to patient data. What is interesting is that they are based on DICOM and HL7 standards. We were reminded elements blocking deployment of IHE in particular the problems of integration on the use of several different sources, and often several different manufacturers. A more detailed study of IHE in particular, frameworks, and different workflows used, and many examples of profiles depending on the structure of the IT structure.

Even if this conference was in fact very general, it confirmed in me the idea that the market is saturated in this regard to how the U.S. and Europe has a real potential.

Around 10:30 I attended my second show, which was rather a course on the different processes related to medical imaging. Very interesting when you know that the regulation differs between countries.

In early afternoon, I see engineers down to the very large showroom, or I could see and discuss solutions around Open Source PACS solutions also documents management, and test IHE including Agfa. In late afternoon, I decided to offer me a treat: A conference on the state of the art in the field of interventional radiology .A through many clinical cases and radiologics, I could see my knowledge in this area are still there, and that the technologies have not changed much since three years.

To finish my day, I decided to go to the Sears Tower, which has the highest buiding of Chicago. This tower hundred three floors above the city. I decided to stop me, and take some pictures.

Long day tomorrow or it will mainly be no question of Open Source.

RSNA Day Three-01/12/08

The third day was quite dense. First, there was a lot of visitors this day. The day starts early, by running on the computer radiology practices, presentation by the computer foundation imaging in medicine. The practices are being changer.we are in the era of PACS and RIS which occupy particularly in the U.S. market a important place.Connectivity between hospitals, is a central concern here. In terms of technology, the tendency is to web-based PACS, and PACS ready for use. The surprise is that the architecture of these is bate on Open Source Technologies. The starting price here is $ 5K for a PACS input range. In terms of interfaces, the Java technologies that are in the spotlight. Much progress on human-machine too. Methods of interpretation and access to the images are changing too, with the abandonment of radiological film and a preponderance of digital.

Brief interesting and rewarding.

I pursued this day with a visit to Dell's stand that proposed solutions to high availability and virtualization for the imaging industry based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Stand Stratus Technologies was quite interesting, since partner Dell, positioning it on infrastructure. I spent some time with Rick Fisher System Engineer, who introduced me his compagny

I finished this morning with Chris BAXTER from DICOM Solutions. The particularity of this American society, is that it offers low cost PACS based on Linux and open source technologies, ready for use. My interlocutor was intrigued when I tell him that it's possible to make $ 17M CA on open source technologies.

Lunch then we can eat anywhere here in Chicago.

I decided on the afternoon of exiting see the exhibitors, there are so many.

I saw a single French company, which is active in the Business Intelligence in the field of imaging.

I went on the stand that IBM also is present in this market. He mostly been presented, infrastructure solutions, and PACS, to the very large structures. My contact at IBM insisted on their capacity for integration in heterogeneous environments and sometimes very difficult

In short a busy day

RSNA Day Two-30/11/08

The second day ie November 30, was much more loaded.

I decide to go to Mc Kormick Place early in the morning and spend the morning to see the various exhibitors, who are more than a hundred.

I note that large companies such as General Electric and Toshiba still have not skimped on the means.

Their booths are huge, and a lot of démonstrations.I decided to concentrate on workstations and interfaces such as PACS or RIS.

Many cards are distributed during the morning, and many meetings with Neusoft in particular, Chinese Society editor software for Medical Imaging, interested in open source, but also Rorke Data U.S. company specializing on infrastructure, especially hardware and data storage and also used as the operating system Linux.

I conclude my visit exhibitors by German editors Protec PACS and RIS, one of the largest European companies present.

The afternoon is spent at work Linagora GSE.

The snow began to fall in Chicago when I decided to return to my hotel.rsna3

RSNA Day One-29/11/08

The first day was an opportunity to spot the places, in Mc Kormick Place in Chicago, and to see everything was ready.

The weather was quite cold, but beautiful.

Arrived at 10h00 local time, I see that everything was not yet ready, and things began serious until the next day.

In the meantime, I decided to go to visit the Navy Pear alentours. Here I found a lot of shops, people too.

Note that this Congress begins the day after Thanksgiving and that many people in suburban Chicago advantage of the log wekker end to make their purchases in Chicago, especially on Michigan Avenue

I stayed at the Allerton Hotel on Michigan Avenue, the Champs Elysees of Chicago. There are mainly luxury shops, and an apple store where I decided to venture. I love this concept, highly interactive between potential clients and marketers.

I concluded a visit by water tower which also includes many shops.

I find that Americans eat too much, even I who in appetite, I can not keep up.

I decide evening, to a working session for Linagora GSE, and treat cases.

The time difference is that I fall asleep early to wake up very early .. DSCN8092.JPG

RSNA the World Congress of medical imaging-Introduction

For several months, I prepare my first RSNA. RSNA (Radiological Society of North América) is the world event of medical imaging, which leads Chicago in the USA more than 85,000 visitors per year. The RSNA is the opportunity to meet manufacturers, view the news in the sector, to consider the interest of open source solutions, adapted to this business, It is also an opportunity to keep in touch with this business, which I come.

This year I set myself the goal of studying the market for solutions to this sector in particular the use of open source technologies, and see if France and the world a response from open source is relevant and if LINAGORA may be one answer on the French market.
